Institute of Chest and Cardiovascular Diseases
The land of the Institute of Chest and Cardiovascular Diseases was originally the property of Aliabad Hospital, which was purchased by a private organization in England in 1384 AH according to 2005 AD, then on behalf of England Dr. Mohammad Naeem Azim, who had British citizenship, for a period of 99 Sal signed a contract with the Afghan government and in two blocks, one of which was built with two floors and the second block with three floors.
Ekamit Hospital with advanced equipment including CT scan machine, digital X-ray, BMD, modern ultrasounds, well-equipped laboratory and supplementary cardiac equipment; including echo machine, ETT, as well as LITHOTROPSY machines and equipment, and other medical and non-medical devices with experienced domestic and foreign doctors, which was a private hospital, in the form of a complex supply health services in the departments of orthopedic surgery, ear and throat, eye, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics and used to treat the sick for several years.
In 1391 AH, according to the urgent need of Kabul University of Medical Sciences "Abu Ali Ibn Sina" and the conclusion of an unfair contract with the UK, due to the efforts of Dr. Shirin Agha Zarif, the former president and leadership board of Kabul University of Medical Sciences "Abu Ali Ibn Sina", Regarding its return to the university, the previous government directed that a delegation consisting of representatives with the competence of the Ministries of Finance, Public Health, Higher Education and a representative of the Administration of Affairs, under the chairmanship of the Ministry of Urban Affairs, was required to price the repair and equipment of Ekamit Hospital and in Report to the highest authority of the government as soon as possible. As a result, the owner of Akamit Hospital, Dr. Mohammad Naeem Azim, agreed to sell the hospital to the Ministry of Higher Education in change for 4 million US dollars. After the hospital was handed over to Kabul University of Medical Sciences "Abu Ali ibn Sina," it began operating under the name "Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases" within the framework of the university. Under the leadership of Dr. Esmatullah Naibkhel and with the appointment of experienced specialists and healthcare and administrative staff, it started providing free medical services in the field of cardiovascular diseases.
In the year 1397, based on the proposal of the Kabul University of Medical Sciences "Abu Ali ibn Sina" and with the approval of the Ministry Of Higher Education, the Institute of Cardiac Diseases was renamed to the "Institute of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Diseases."
Currently, this health institute includes departments for pediatric and adult cardiology, pulmonary medicine, cardiac surgery, thoracic surgery, and a cardiac diagnostic center equipped with CT scans, echocardiography, ultrasound, tolerance tests (ETT), X-rays, ECG, BMD, mammography, a laboratory, and a pharmacy.
The Institute of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Diseases had a total of 122 professional, administrative and service personnel in the year 1402, which is presented below.
1 chief physician, 16 specialists, 2 CT scan doctors, 10 trainee doctors, surgery and internal medicine, 24 head nurses and nurses, 4 doctors and anaesthesia technicians, 4 radiology technicians, 2 pharmacists, 4 lab technicians 11 administrative staff, 32 service staff are working in this institute, it is worth to mention that the Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Department professors who are not included the above structure of institute are also performing their duties under the leadership of this institute.
Also It worth mentioning that the following works and changes have been implemented at the institute level:
- Performing open and closed heart operations
- Equipping the laboratory with advanced equipment and examinations
- Equipping the IPD of the hospital with advanced equipment
- Equipping the ICU with a critical care room
- Setting up and equipping classrooms for students
- Upgrading the institute from 35 to 50 beds
- Setting up the emergency department at the hospital level
- Arrangement and adjustment of the strategic plan of the hospital for next of 5 years
- Setting up a room with all the equipment for the quality assurance department
- Holding scientific conferences at the hospital level in order to improve the capacity of employees
- Introducing several doctors to different hospitals to improve the capacity of the professional department of this institute.
The position of the directorship and chief physician of this institute includes the formation of university staff positions, wich the honorable Dr. Ahmadullah Zarmati, the president, and the honorable Dr. Ahmad Fawad Wardak, as the chief physician of this institute, perform their duties.
