Vice Chancellor for Health Institutions
Since the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine and the Aliabad teaching Hospital in 1932, an entity known as the "Central Clinic" was created. Professors from various medical departments were appointed on a permanent and rotational basis to provide healthcare services to the public and supervise the clinical training of medical students. This institution operated in the area of Pul-e-Bagh-e-Omomi, where the Rabia Balkhi Hospital is currently located.
Following various changes in the country, Kabul University of Medical Sciences "Abu Ali ibn Sina" lost some of its properties and acquired new assets. For instance, the land of the Central Clinic (now Rabia Balkhi Hospital), was lost which was originally a part of this university, and a new site in Shar-e-Ara was obtained through an exchange with the Ministry of Public Health. Additionally, the current site of the Red Cross Hospital was also owned by Kabul University of Medical Sciences "Abu Ali ibn Sina." Previously, the Red Cross Hospital was situated in Karte 3, Pul-e-Surkh; however, due to the needs identified by the government at that time, the current site was allocated to the Red Cross Hospital.
During the chancellor of Professor Dr. Obaidullah Obaid, the Directorate of Health Institutions was established within this university, with Professor Dr. Mehr Mohammad Ajazi serving as its first director. Subsequently, during the chancellor of Professor Dr. Sherin Aqa Zarif, this directorate was upgraded to the Vice Chancellor for Health Institutions within Kabul University of Medical Sciences "Abu Ali ibn Sina."
Kabul University of Medical Sciences "Abu Ali ibn Sina" comprises six teaching hospitals where students from various disciplines undertake their practical training during the academic year, referred to as internships. Therefore, the administration of these six health centers falls under the Health Institutions Vice Chancellor, which is responsible for overseeing all related matters.
The Health Institutions Vice Chancellor hold 2nd Grade position within the organizational structure and is currently led by Dr. Mohammad Hashim Zazai, who was appointed as Vice President for Health Institutions in 2023 based on a proposal from the Ministry of Higher Education and approval from the Prime Minister's Office.
